Future Goals and Plans
Make Crane School of Music a destination program for string players across New York State and the country
Diversify the violin studios by implementing recruiting strategies that target the complete demographic makeup of our community and the state of New York.
Continue to increase enrollment and playing level of violin students at Crane
Once numbers and quality of violinists can support it, I aim to continue working towards establishing a collaboration with the Crane Chamber Orchestra modeled after the artistic process and administrative savvy of A Far Cry and hopefully in cooperation with the Music Business department as an entrepreneurial laboratory in democratic self-governance, marketing and development of a non-profit.
Complete my Doctor of Musical Arts degree from New England Conservatory – anticipated completion 2021
Record and produce an album by “The Dotys” – anticipated in 2021 or 2022
Continue to establish my reputation as a performer and teacher in New York State and the Northeast Region.
Maintain an active and varied performance career through solo performances, work with A Far Cry and my duo, “The Dotys”.
Continue to foster a violin studio learning environment that is compassionate, earnest and motivated.
Establish a performance and music business-based residency with A Far Cry
V. Other Information
Of Note
I would like to highlight the success of the recruitment endeavors I undertook this past year amidst the global pandemic and unprecedented disruption to regular academic instruction. I enjoyed the second largest number of incoming students since my time at Crane in the of Fall 2020. Spring of 2021 brought a drastically reduced number of auditions (as was the trend across the board), however, I was able to successfully secure 42% of auditionees to deposit, an increase of 2% from the previous audition season. Even though the overall number of deposits was lower, the ratio of students I personally ushered to Potsdam did not take a hit. When I first started teaching at Crane, the highest target number for violin recruits was 25. With diligent work, I was able to close that gap to its lowest number of 15 (pre-pandemic). It has been my pleasure to methodically and consistently recruit greater numbers of violinists to Crane. Bearing in mind the average target enrollment for violins tends to be the 3rd highest at Crane (topped only by voice and piano) and that the retention of violin students is needed to support an entire symphony orchestra and chamber/opera orchestra, the recruitment of this many high-quality violinists should be the work of a minimum of 3 faculty members.
