Liesl Schoenberger is a violin performance major studying with Mauricio Fuks. Currently a senior at Indiana State University, she took lessons here for 9 years prior with Mimi Zwieg as a student in the Indiana University String Academy. Living in Cape Girardeau, MO all her life meant making the weekly 600-mile round trip to Bloomington for lessons. During her pre-college years, Liesl was semi-finalist and winner of several competitions, including the Missouri String Teacher's Association Competition, Blount-Young Competition, National Federal Music Club's Young Artists Competition, Paducah Symphony Young Artists and Mississippi Symphony Competitions. Among concert tours in Europe, she has also performed in New York's Carnegie-Weill Recital Hall. In addition to classical violin, Liesl also fiddles bluegrass style. She has performed at the Grand Ole Opry, and has recorded three albums, two of which were recorded in Nashville, TN. Among dozens of other contests, she is a four-time winner of the Indiana State Governor's Cup in bluegrass and old time fiddling. Liesl also likes to share her time with the music ministry at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Bloomington.
